Dr. Debarati Bhattacharya is an Associate Professor of Finance at the Palumbo-Donahue School of Business, Duquesne University. She holds a Ph.D. in Finance from Virginia Tech (2014), an MBA in Finance from Calcutta University (2002), and a B.S. in Economics from Calcutta University (1999). Her prior banking experience with American Express, Citi, and HSBC informs her expertise in investment and corporate finance.
Her research focuses on corporate governance, dividend policy, market efficiency, and mutual fund behavior. Notable work includes analyzing how corporate governance interacts with payout policies and firm risk, as well as studying momentum anomalies and mutual fund herding effects. Her research on momentum has been featured in Moneyweek, Reuters, and CBS MoneyWatch.
Dr. Bhattacharya has received the Robert Hansen Corporate Finance Best Paper Award (2019) and the Taiwan Finance Association Best Paper Award (2017). Her recent publications explore M&A valuations, board dynamics, and post-acquisition strategies. She maintains active research agendas in corporate innovation under external stress and venture capital liquidity pressures.
