Deb Hyde

Deb Hyde is a Lecturer in the Department of Natural Sciences at Northeastern State University (NSU), where she has taught undergraduate and graduate courses since 2008. She holds an MS in Geoscience from Mississippi State University (Cum Laude, 2006) and a BS in Secondary Science Education with a Biology Emphasis from NSU (Cum Laude, 1996).

Research Interests: Deb focuses on Environmental Water Quality, including phosphorus sequestration in constructed wetlands and microbial alkaline phosphatase effects on reactive phosphorus levels. She also explores Geoscience Education, comparing online and blended teaching methods, and promoting geoscience through digital platforms. Her work aligns with sustainability and GIS applications in environmental science.

Grants & Awards: Deb received multiple grants for course development, including the 2011 NSU Through Their Eyes: Collaborative Course Redesign Grant ($10,000) and two 2010 Distance Learning Awards for online and ITV course creation ($1,000 each).

Professional Activities: She serves on NSU’s Committee for Sustainability, Tree Campus Committee, Science Education Steering Committee, and University Planning Council. Affiliations include the National Registry of Environmental Professionals, Geological Society of America, and National Association of Geoscience Teachers. She is certified as a Sustainable Initiatives Professional (CSIP) since 2012.
