Dean Johnson is the Dean of the College of Business at Michigan Technological University and holds the title of James and Dolores Trethewey APMP Professor. He is also the founding director of the Applied Portfolio Management Program (APMP), a unique initiative where students manage over $2 million in financial markets. The program has thrice won the international investment competition at the R.I.S.E. Conference, leading to recognition such as opening the Nasdaq Stock Exchange and features in Business Week.
Education: PhD in Finance from the University of Wisconsin - Madison.
Research and teaching interests include Asset Pricing, Portfolio Management, Investments, and Derivative Securities. His pedagogical innovations have earned him multiple accolades, including the U.S. Professor of the Year nomination and the College of Business Innovative Teaching Award.
Awards highlight his dedication to teaching, such as the Michigan Tech Distinguished Teaching Award (twice) and recognition from the President's Council of State Universities of Michigan.
He oversees the APMP program, which serves as a flagship for experiential learning, blending academic rigor with real-world financial management.
