Dean Dabney

Dean Dabney is a Professor at the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies of Georgia State University, affiliated with the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology. He has been on faculty since 1997 and serves as the MISCJA Coordinator.

Education:

• Ph.D. in Sociology, University of Florida (1997)

Research Interests focus on police culture, combating violent crime, and operational dynamics of law enforcement, including studies on homicide units, confidential informants, and police responses to gun violence. His work employs qualitative methods to analyze officer discretion and organizational misconduct.

Professional Contributions: He has authored three books, including Speaking Truth to Power: Confidential Informants and Police Investigations (2016), and contributed to several dozen peer-reviewed journal articles in criminology and sociology. Dr. Dabney also consults with metro Atlanta police departments to improve training and operations.
