Dean A. Strang

Dean A. Strang is a Distinguished Professor in Residence at Loyola University Chicago School of Law, holding the rank of Professor. He is a renowned criminal defense attorney and co-star of Netflix’s Making a Murderer. His practice spans over 30 years, including five years as Wisconsin’s first Federal Defender.

Research focuses on criminal law, legal history, and criminal procedure. He has authored two books: Keep the Wretches in Order (2019) and Worse Than the Devil (2013/2016), exploring legal history and justice. His articles address forensic testimony, confessions, and constitutional law.

Strang co-founded the Center for Integrity in Forensic Sciences and has argued in the U.S. Supreme Court, federal appellate courts, and Wisconsin Supreme Court. He is a member of the American Law Institute since 2004.
