Day Atle Lysne

Day Atle Lysne is an Associate Professor in Biology and Science Education at NTNU's Department of Teacher Education within the Faculty of Social and Educational Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Ecology from the University of Tromsø and has extensive experience in primary/secondary schools and kindergartens. Previously led NTNU Competence in Schools (2009-2013) and was Head of the Program for Teacher Education (PLU) until its closure in 2016.

His research focuses on contextualized learning in science education, particularly practical work’s role in primary education and digital service applications in higher education. Key themes include cross-campus learning environments, student motivation in outdoor settings, and interdisciplinary project-based learning.

Recent publications explore cross-institutional collaboration, digital pedagogy, and outdoor education’s impact. He has contributed to Nordic MOOC platform development and emphasized the importance of student-active learning spaces.

Notable contributions include leading the pilot study on school-based teacher competence development in Mid-Norway (2012-2013) and co-authoring works on science/math integration in technology projects. His work bridges theoretical frameworks like Merleau-Ponty’s phenomenology with practical educational design.
