About
Dawn Carone is an Associate Professor of Biology at Swarthmore College, where she leads the Carone Lab researching noncoding RNA and nuclear structure. Her work investigates repetitive elements in the human genome and their implications for nuclear organization, gene regulation, and human diseases including cancer.
She has received significant research funding including a $150,000 Charles Kaufman New Investigator Grant and an R15/AREA Grant from NIH NIGMS. Her laboratory focuses on locus-specific expression of pericentric tandem repeats and their role in epigenetic dysregulation.
Professor Carone mentors numerous undergraduate researchers including both current students and alumni. Her work has contributed to understanding how satellite repeat misregulation impacts cancer progression through sequestration of epigenetic regulators.
