Dawn Barten

Dawn Barten is a Lecturer and Program Director in the Department of Medical Laboratory Science at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, where she has been employed since August 2011. Her role includes teaching advanced courses in clinical chemistry, hematology, and laboratory management, as well as advising students to identify strengths and weaknesses for career success.

Education:

• M.S. in Medical Laboratory Science (2013), University of North Dakota

Research Interests: Dawn’s work centers on clinical diagnostics, with a focus on hematology-hemostasis, applied instrumentation in medical labs, and laboratory information systems. She emphasizes practical training through courses like Advanced Practicum Hematology-Hemostasis and Special Stains.

• Certified by the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS) since 2010
• Member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) and ASCLS since 1998
• Active in campus committees including the Clinical Education Policy Task Force and Institutional Biosafety Committee
• Participant in the Community Medical Laboratory Technician/Phlebotomy Advisory Board (2018-present)
