Davide Bianchi

Dr. Davide Bianchi is a postdoctoral researcher in the "Ancient Religion" focus group at the Austrian Academy of Sciences and holds a visiting lecturer position at the University of Pécs since 2023. His research centers on Late Antiquity and Early Byzantine archaeology, particularly examining sacred spaces and material culture across the Mediterranean.

• Education: PhD in Christian and Byzantine archaeology (University of Milan, 2017)
• Key Projects: "Caskets of Late Antiquity" (project head), "Early Christianity in Hungary", "Accommodation/Living in Sacred Contexts"
• Research Focus: Syncretic religious imagery, relic veneration in sacred spaces, monastic practices in the Holy Land, and intercultural dynamics between the Danubian provinces and Near East
• Upcoming Role: Teaching position at the University of Vienna from 2025

Bianchi's recent publications examine sacred architecture patterns (2024), Late Antique casket symbolism (2025), and Mediterranean relic networks (2024). His work bridges archaeological analysis with religious studies frameworks.
