David Wood

David Wood serves as Chair of Modern Languages and Associate Professor of Spanish at Millsaps College since 2014. He teaches Spanish language courses, advanced literature, and Hispanic film studies, with a specialization in the Spanish Civil War's representation in media. His research focuses on Spanish cultural history, gender studies, and early 20th-century artistic movements.

Education:

• Ph.D. in Hispanic Languages and Literature, UCLA (2005)
• M.A. in Spanish, Louisiana State University
• B.A. in History, Brigham Young University

Research interests include Spanish literature and film, particularly exploring intersections of art, gender, and cultural identity. Recent work examines female celebrity and early feminism in 1920s Spain through the lens of artists like Maruja Mallo and Concha Méndez.

Current projects include revising a book manuscript analyzing José Martínez Ruiz (Azorín)'s works from 1894-1904, focusing on literature's role in social reform.
