David Webster

Dr. David Webster is an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the School of Social & Political Sciences, University of Glasgow. His research focuses on welfare conditionality, deindustrialisation impacts, and urban development, particularly in China and the UK private housing sector. He holds a PhD from the University of Glasgow (2010) and an MBA (1992), with notable awards including fellowships from the Academy of Social Sciences and Chartered Institute of Housing. His work includes critical analyses of UK benefit sanctions, contributions to parliamentary inquiries, and studies on health-labour market intersections. He has authored over 25 publications, with recent focus on welfare systems and policy impacts. Previously, he served as Housing Strategy Manager at Glasgow City Council (1981–2010) and advised parliamentary committees on social security and urban policy.
