David W. Petr is a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science (EECS) and Associate Chair for Undergraduate Studies at the University of Kansas (KU). He is affiliated with the Information and Telecommunications Technology Center (ITTC) at KU.

He worked at AT&T Bell Laboratories (1977-1986) on digital PBXs, speech coding, and packet networks, earning three patents. He served as a Visiting Professor at Tennessee State University (1983-84), Visiting Erskine Fellow at the University of Canterbury (2000), and Fulbright Scholar at TU-Graz (2016). He contributes to the Information and Telecommunications Technology Center (ITTC) at KU.
