Dr. David Unbehaun serves as Acting Professor for Human-Centered Information Systems at Clausthal University of Technology since October 2022, while concurrently leading a Human-Computer Interaction research group at the University of Siegen since 2020. He maintains an active role as External Visiting Scientist in the Department of Neurology at the Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig, Germany.
His research centers on Human-Computer Interaction with emphasis on participatory design methodologies and assistive technologies for healthcare. Key focus areas include developing music-based interactive systems for dementia care, technological support for social interactions across virtual and physical environments, and ethical considerations in sustainable technology development. His work bridges individual behavioral support with institutional change processes in care settings.
Dr. Unbehaun actively shapes the international research landscape through conference organization and participation in HCI, HRI, and CSCW communities. His current projects prioritize co-designed, practice-oriented systems for real-world implementation across healthcare domains including digital vital monitoring, movement pattern recognition, teleconsultation frameworks, and augmented reality applications for stroke rehabilitation.
He directs the Music-Evoked Brain Plasticity Research Group at the Max Planck Institute and collaborates with interdisciplinary committees including the JPND International Expert Group on Technology for Neurodegenerative Diseases, fostering integration between hospitals, educational institutions, and care facilities.
