David Timm is the Elton & Lois Huff Eminent Chair Professor (Pavements and Materials) and Department Chair of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Auburn University. He holds a Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Minnesota.
His research focuses on asphalt pavements, full-scale testing, structural modeling, and sustainable pavement design. Key projects include evaluations at the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) Test Track and studies on recycled materials and pavement longevity.
Dr. Timm has received the 2024 Eugene Skok Award from the National Road Research Alliance and the 2019 James M. Robbins Excellence in Teaching Award. He serves on the Association of Asphalt Paving Technologists Board of Directors.
His work integrates mechanistic-empirical design principles, pavement performance analysis, and environmental considerations to advance infrastructure resilience. Recent articles emphasize recycled materials, pavement thickness optimization, and lifecycle integration.
