David Thompson

David Thompson is a Professor in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Queen's University Belfast, with additional affiliations at universities in Hong Kong and Australia. He is recognized as a global leader in cardiovascular nursing and rehabilitation, contributing over 800 publications, including high-impact studies in The Lancet and BMJ. With an h-index of 94, he holds seven honorary/visiting professorships and has pioneered cardiovascular nursing research in the UK, Hong Kong, and Australia.

His research focuses on cardiac rehabilitation, chronic disease management, and patient-reported outcomes. He has led international collaborations, including projects on heart failure care in nursing homes and digital interventions for self-management. Thompson has served in leadership roles such as Dean and Head of departments, and currently chairs research centers and editorial boards.

He has mentored numerous nurse scientists and contributed to policy development, including advising the UK government on nursing research. Key achievements include membership in the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (2021) and the Academia Europaea (2019).
