David Tahere is an Assistant Professor of Music at Covenant College since 2012. He holds a Bachelor of Music (BM) from Lee University, a Master of Music (MM) from Temple University, and a Doctor of Music (DM) from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. His expertise includes vocal pedagogy across classical, Broadway, and popular styles, vocal literature, and directing Māori instruments. Tahere has performed with notable groups such as the Chattanooga Symphony, Opera Tennessee, and Delaware Valley Opera Company. He was a finalist in the 2023 Joy in Singing International Art Song Competition and participated in productions like It’s a Wonderful Life by Jake Heggie with Indiana University Opera Theatre. As a Marc and Eva Stern Fellow at SongFest, he contributed to advanced vocal training initiatives.
His professional engagements include collaborations with The Pop-Up Project and academic leadership in music education. Personal interests include coffee and tea culture, reading, hiking, and travel. He humorously notes that a well-made Flat White instantly improves his day.
