David T. Garrett is the Richard F. Scholz Professor of History and Humanities at Reed College, where he teaches Latin American history and classical/early modern European humanities. His research focuses on colonial Cusco (Peru), with publications including Shadows of Empire: The Indian Nobility of Cusco, 1750-1825. He holds a BA from Yale, MA from Harvard, and PhD from Columbia.
Research explores social, religious, and ethnohistorical dimensions of colonial societies, particularly examining royal governance in 17th-century Cusco.
Honors include the Tibesar Prize and Alice Adams Fellowship at the John Carter Brown Library.
