David Stevens

David Stevens serves as Applied Instructor of Saxophone at the Adams School of Music and the Arts, with concurrent faculty positions at All Newton Music School, Powers Music School, and Brimmer and May School. He also works in MIT's Music and Theater Arts Department as an administrator assisting composers Robert Honstein, Christopher Cerrone, and Stratis Minakakis.

His academic credentials include:

• Master of Music in Music Theory from New England Conservatory

Stevens' research and creative work spans Saxophone Performance, Music Theory, and cross-genre exploration in Classical, Jazz, New Music, and Musical Theater. As a founding member of the Jamaica Plain Saxophone Quartet, he actively performs with ensembles including International Contemporary Ensemble and ALEA III, while contributing scholarly writings to the Boston Musical Intelligencer and presenting at institutions like Harvard and the University of Arizona.

His recognition includes:

With over 15 years of teaching experience since 2005, Stevens mentors students across saxophone, flute, clarinet, and theory at multiple institutions and his private Boston studio, emphasizing individualized pedagogy and educational outreach throughout Greater Boston.

He co-founded the Jamaica Plain Saxophone Quartet and Gunther Schuller Society, preserving Schuller's legacy through performance and research while collaborating with contemporary composers and ensembles like Hub New Music and Megalopolis Saxophone Orchestra.
