David Sluss is a Professor of Management at ESSEC Business School (France), where he also serves as Chair of the Scale Up Chair (2022–2025) and Academic Director of the Global MBA (2022–2026). Previously, he held academic roles including Associate Professor (2013–2021) and Assistant Professor (2010–2013) at Georgia Institute of Technology, and Assistant Professor at the Darla Moore School of Business, University of South Carolina (2006–2010). He earned a Ph.D. in Management from Arizona State University (2006), an MBA from Brigham Young University (1997), and a B.S. in Psychology from Virginia Tech (1995).
His research focuses on organizational behavior, leadership, and work relationships, with a particular emphasis on relational identification, leader-member exchange, and newcomer socialization. Key contributions include studies on how relational dynamics influence employee attitudes and behaviors, resilience-building strategies, and the ethical dimensions of workplace interactions. His work has been published in journals like the Journal of Applied Psychology, Academy of Management Review, and Harvard Business Review.
In 2016, he was a finalist for the Academy of Management Review’s Best Paper Award, and in 2005, he received the State Farm Dissertation Grant. He actively contributes to the academic community as a reviewer for the Journal of Applied Psychology since 2023.
His research spans themes such as the impact of relational identification on citizenship behaviors, the mediating role of leadership in newcomer adaptation, and the generalization of identification across organizational contexts. Recent work emphasizes meta-analytic reviews of relational dynamics and strategies to enhance team resilience in remote settings.
