David Sheikh-Hamad is a Professor of Medicine-Nephrology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. He holds a B.Sc. from Hebrew University of Jerusalem (1976), an M.D. from Hadassah Medical School (1981), and advanced training from UCLA and NIH. His research focuses on kidney disease mechanisms, including stanniocalcin-1’s role in renal protection, inflammation, and ischemia-reperfusion injury. He has received awards for teaching excellence and is a member of the Academy of Distinguished Educators.
Research interests include kidney protection via metabolic sensors, cisplatin nephrotoxicity, and chronic kidney disease of unknown etiology (CKDu). He leads grants exploring stanniocalcin-1’s antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, and its role in kidney injury. His work integrates molecular biology, clinical nephrology, and environmental health.
