David Shanks is an Assistant Professor at Auburn University's School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture. A registered New York architect and co-founder of ASDF practice, his work received the Architect's Newspaper's Best of Practice (2021) and AIA NY Merit Award (2023).
With degrees from New York University (BA) and Harvard Graduate School of Design (M.Arch), his research focuses on design activism, community-centered projects, and energy-efficient retrofits. Professional experience includes positions at OMA, SOM, and Gluckman Tang Architects.
International engagements include program directorship at Syracuse University's Florence campus, teaching at Kookmin University (Seoul), and fellowships at MacDowell Colony and Cape Cod Modern House Trust.
Exhibitions include Boston Society of Architects and Museum of the City of New York.
