David Riggs

David Riggs, PhD, serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of Medical and Clinical Psychology (MPS) at the F. Edward Hérbert School of Medicine, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, Maryland. Concurrently, he is the Executive Director of the Center for Deployment Psychology (CDP), leading initiatives to train behavioral health professionals in providing care for military service members and their families through specialized seminars and workshops.

Dr. Riggs' research expertise lies in trauma, violence, and anxiety disorders, with specific emphasis on how PTSD and related conditions affect family systems of affected individuals. His work bridges clinical practice and research to enhance mental health outcomes within military communities, focusing on intergenerational trauma transmission and family-centered intervention models.

In his dual leadership roles, Dr. Riggs oversees psychology training for active duty and civilian students at USUHS while directing CDP's national behavioral health programs. His prior clinical research experience includes positions at the University of Pennsylvania's Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety and the National Center for PTSD at the Boston VA Medical Center, establishing a career-long focus on deployment-related psychological health.
