David Rigg is a Senior Lecturer at Manchester Law School, Manchester Metropolitan University, where he serves as Course Leader for the Part-Time LLB programme. Called to the Bar in 2007 (Lincoln's Inn), he practiced as a barrister on the Northern Circuit with a general common law practice including Crown Court jury trials. He holds an LLB (Hons) and LLM from the University of Manchester, along with a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning.
Rigg's teaching spans European Law, Public Law, Criminal Law, and Legal Skills across undergraduate and postgraduate programs. As external examiner for multiple universities, he contributes to legal education quality assurance. His research addresses legal education methodology and sports law, particularly football stadium seating regulations, with publications in The International Sports Law Journal and The Law Teacher.
His research includes journal articles on sports law and legal pedagogy, exploring how assessment methods can balance academic learning with employability skills development. Rigg maintains active involvement in legal practice through external examining roles at UWE Bristol and De Montfort University, having previously served in similar capacities at The Open University and University of Derby.
