David R. Swanson

David R. Swanson is a Professor of Transportation and Logistics at the Coggin College of Business, University of North Florida. He teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in logistics, supply chain management, and transportation systems. His research focuses on leveraging technology and information systems to enhance transportation and logistics operations. Prior to academia, he spent 20 years in private sector logistics roles at Walmart and Pearle Vision, specializing in warehouse automation and systems management.

Swanson serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Transportation Journal, the oldest academic logistics journal. His work spans interdisciplinary topics including sustainable transportation, cost transparency, and pandemic-related supply chain dynamics. He has published over 26 articles in journals such as Journal of Business Logistics, Journal of Retailing, and IEEE: Engineering Management Review.

His professional experience combines academic research with industry expertise, emphasizing practical applications of logistics theory. He actively collaborates with peers on editorial initiatives and research projects addressing modern logistical challenges.
