David R. Stagliano

Colonel David R. Stagliano, MD, is a faculty member at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics. He currently serves as the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program Director at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in Bethesda, MD.

• Education: Doctor of Medicine (Virginia Commonwealth University, 2003); Fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases (National Capital Consortium, 2008–2011); Residency and Internship in Pediatrics (NCC, 2003–2006); Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry-Philosophy (University of Scranton, 1999, Summa Cum Laude).

Dr. Stagliano’s research focuses on childhood respiratory infections, especially Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) in vulnerable populations like Down syndrome patients and late-preterm infants. He also investigates tropical medicine, antimicrobial resistance (e.g., Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococcus), and clinical applications of immune plasma therapy for viral infections. His work bridges clinical practice, military deployments, and public health strategies.

Selected publications highlight his contributions to travelers’ diarrhea treatment guidelines, simulation training for combat medicine, and infectious disease epidemiology in military health systems. He has deployed multiple times in support of operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Africa, integrating clinical expertise with operational readiness.
