David R. Gutierrez is an Assistant Professor of Engineering at the University of Virginia’s First Year Engineering Center. His work focuses on harmonizing engineering practices with socio-technical systems, emphasizing how engineers' cognition and behavior impact project outcomes and sustainability. Before academia, he worked in construction design, managed environmental planning projects, and co-founded a company integrating building-design disciplines. He holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (University of Virginia, 2024), an MBA (Universidad Industrial de Santander, 2017), and a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering (Universidad Industrial de Santander, 2012).
