David R. Freyer

Dr. David R. Freyer is a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics and Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, affiliated with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA). He serves as Director of the LIFE Program, overseeing clinical care, research, and training for over 350 childhood cancer survivors annually. His expertise spans cancer survivorship, AYA oncology, palliative care, and health transition strategies.

• Medical Degree from Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery
• MS in Clinical Research Design from University of Michigan School of Public Health (2007)

Research Interests: Dr. Freyer focuses on long-term outcomes of cancer treatments, including otoxicity prevention (e.g., cisplatin-induced hearing loss), fertility preservation, and mental health in AYA survivors. He leads initiatives in guideline-concordant care, symptom management pathways, and disparities in oncology care.

Articles: Recent work addresses otoprotection therapies, AYA clinical trial enrollment barriers, and resilience interventions. Key themes include translational research, survivorship care standards, and quality-of-life improvements.

Grants and Teams: Chair of the Children’s Oncology Group (COG) AYA Committee and Steering Committees for Survivorship & Outcomes and Cancer Control. Collaborates with COG on protocols and clinical trials, emphasizing multidisciplinary approaches to pediatric and AYA oncology challenges.
