David Pitcher is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Psychology at the University of York since 2020, with previous roles including Lecturer (2015–2020) and Research Fellow at the National Institute of Mental Health (2011–2015). He holds a PhD from University College London (2009) and degrees from the University of York (BSc 1994, MSc 2006). His research focuses on the cortical mechanisms of face perception and social cognition, using transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), fMRI, and neuropsychological patient data. He leads the Pitcher Lab in the Department of Psychology, exploring the Third Visual Pathway’s role in social perception and has received grants such as the BBSRC New Investigator Grant (2017–2021) and SFARI Explorer Award (2016–2017). His work bridges cognitive neuroscience with clinical applications, investigating disorders like prosopagnosia. Teaching includes modules on clinical neuroscience and depression neurobiology.
