Dr. David P. Retchless is an Associate Professor in the Department of Marine and Coastal Environmental Science at Texas A&M University with a joint appointment in Geography. He holds a PhD in Geography from Penn State University (2015), MS in Geography from Penn State (2011), and BA in Liberal Studies from University of Notre Dame (2004).
His research examines climate communication strategies, sea level rise risk perception, and geospatial visualization techniques. Current projects focus on developing effective cartographic methods for communicating climate risks and using augmented reality for storm surge education. Research integrates weather/climate science, risk communication, and geospatial technology.
Dr. Retchless teaches courses in GIS-based spatial analysis, marine geography, and senior seminars. He mentors graduate students in coastal resource management and geovisualization. Funded research includes studies on coastal infrastructure resilience and flood insurance impacts.
His work has been recognized through conference presentations at American Meteorological Society and Association of American Geographers meetings.
