David Nash is a Professor of Physical Geography at the University of Brighton’s School of Applied Sciences, with an Honorary Research Fellowship at the University of the Witwatersrand (South Africa). His research focuses on duricrust geochemistry, climate history reconstruction, and archaeological provenancing. He holds a PhD from the University of Sheffield (1992) and a Bachelor’s in Geology and Physical Geography (1988).
Research interests include silcrete characterization in southern Africa and the UK (e.g., Stonehenge), historical climatology using documentary sources, and arid geomorphology. He has secured funding from major bodies like the Leverhulme Trust and British Academy. Over 100 publications include co-authored books on geochemical sediments and Quaternary environmental change.
He co-directs the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Science and Engineering in Art, Heritage, and Archaeology (SEAHA), collaborating with UCL and Oxford. Awards include the Gordon Warwick Award (2003) for geomorphological research. Supervision spans 8 completed PhDs and 3 ongoing projects.
