About
David N. Beratan is R.J. Reynolds Distinguished Professor of Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Physics at Duke University. His research develops theoretical frameworks for charge transport in biological systems, quantum coherence in energy conversion, and chiral-induced spin selectivity.
Current NIH and DOE grants support mapping electron tunneling pathways in proteins and electron bifurcation theory. Recent work in Nature Materials demonstrated inverse spin polarization in conjugated polymers, advancing spintronic applications.
Honors include NAS membership, Langmuir Award, and Bourke Award. He directs graduate training programs and teaches courses on biological nanomachines and physical underpinnings of molecular function.
