About
David Morrisset is a Lecturer in the School of Civil Engineering at the University of Queensland’s Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Fire Safety Engineering from the University of Edinburgh and specializes in experimental fire dynamics. His research focuses on flame spread mechanisms, pyrolysis, flammability testing, and fire safety of materials.
Research Interests:
Morrisset’s work bridges combustion science and practical fire safety, with emphasis on:
- Flame spread dynamics under varying orientations/materials
- Pyrolysis tracking using advanced diagnostics (e.g., spectral fluorescence)
- Statistical analysis of fire test variability and uncertainty
- Sustainable biochar production via pyrolysis
Grants & Projects:
- Advancing Fire Safety of Battery Systems Using Novel Measurement Techniques (2025-2026)
- Batteries at sea and the global SAR community (Lloyd's Register Foundation, 2025-2026)
Supervision: He serves as Associate Advisor for a PhD project on Mass Timber Behaviour in Fire, collaborating with Dr. Felix Wiesner and Associate Professor David Lange.
