Dr. David Mooney is an Associate Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School, leading the Trauma Center at Boston Children’s Hospital. He specializes in pediatric trauma care systems, surgical immunology, and biomaterials engineering. His work spans global surgical initiatives, including post-disaster care and pediatric trauma system development in multiple countries.
Education: MD from St. Louis University School of Medicine, MPH from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He completed residencies in General Surgery and Pediatric Surgery, with a focus on surgical immunology research.
Research interests include biomaterials for immunomodulation, cancer vaccines, and regenerative medicine. His lab develops scaffold-based therapies for immune activation and tissue repair. Over 100 peer-reviewed articles and 12 book chapters highlight his prolific output in biomaterials science and trauma care.
Leadership roles include Founding President of the Pediatric Trauma Society and national committee memberships in ACS, APSA, and EAST. He has reviewed over 100 pediatric trauma centers and advised global health organizations like the Maternal Child Health Bureau.
