David McCormack

Dr. David McCormack is a Lecturer (Education) in Clinical Psychology at Queen’s University Belfast (since June 2018) and Joint Course Director for the Foundations in Clinical Psychology postgraduate program. He previously served as Clinical Director of the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Programme (2021–2024). His research focuses on clinical child and family psychology, psychological trauma in children and parents, and interventions for persistent physical symptoms. McCormack has held roles at The Royal Hospitals Belfast, Oxford Health NHS Trust, and The Maudsley Hospital, London, and is currently Northern Ireland Director for the Association of Clinical Psychologists (2019–2025). He completed a DClinPsych at Queen’s University Belfast and a Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy at Oxford University.

Notable projects include systematic reviews on ICU-related post-traumatic growth and foster care outcomes. He has supervised numerous doctoral/master’s projects on child sleep difficulties and trauma.

McCormack’s recent work explores brief, cost-effective interventions for symptom reduction and functional improvement, leveraging behavioral and cognitive approaches. His activities include external examining for clinical psychology programs and conference participation (e.g., Technology in Clinical Psychology Practice).
