David Maxwell is Dixie Professor of Ecclesiastical History at the University of Cambridge's Faculty of History. His research examines African Christianity, mission history, and religious globalization, with focus on Pentecostalism in Central/Southern Africa. He has authored books on Zimbabwean religious movements and missionary ethnography, and edited volumes on world Christianity.
His current project analyzes church-state relations in post-colonial Zimbabwe. Maxwell has held fellowships worldwide and served as President of the African Studies Association UK. His teaching covers African history, world Christianity, and missionary encounters.
