David Massell is a Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of History at the University of Vermont (UVM). He specializes in Canadian-American history, environmental history, and North American Indigenous studies, with a focus on resource development in the Canadian North and hydroelectric policy. His research explores the economic integration of North America, particularly the role of American capital in shaping Quebec's hydroelectric projects.

His research interests center on the historical interplay between hydroelectric development, political economies, and environmental impacts. He has published two major books: Amassing Power (2000) and Quebec Hydropolitics (2011), both critically acclaimed. Award-winning educator, Massell teaches courses on Canadian history, Canadian-American relations, and environmental history.
