David Martin-Jones

David Martin-Jones is Professor of Film Studies at the University of Glasgow, where he has been since 2013. He previously established the Film Studies department at the University of St Andrews and worked at Northumbria University. Educated at the University of Sheffield (BA), University of Edinburgh (MSc), and University of Glasgow (PhD), his research intersects cinema with philosophical concepts like time, ethics, and ecology, particularly through Gilles Deleuze and Enrique Dussel.

His work explores 'small' cinemas (Scotland, Uruguay, South Korea) and their global engagement, critiquing geopolitics and screen tourism. Recent publications include Cinema Against Doublethink (2018) and Contemporary Screen Ethics (2023). He co-edits the award-winning Thinking Cinema series and serves on editorial boards such as Screen.
