About
Dr David M. Klyne is a NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellow and Fulbright Scholar affiliated with The University of Queensland's Faculty of Health, Medicine and Behavioural Sciences, where he holds dual positions as Affiliate of the Centre for Innovation in Pain and Health Research (CIPHeR) and Affiliate Senior Research Fellow at School of Biomedical Sciences. He leads international research teams investigating bio-psycho-social mechanisms of pain, with a specialization in neuro-immune pathways and sleep-pain interactions.
- PhD in Neuro-immunology
- MSc in Molecular Biology (The University of Queensland)
- DPhty in Physiotherapy (Bond University)
- BAppSc (Institution to be confirmed)
His research focuses on acute-to-chronic pain transitions, neuro-immunology, and sleep's role in pain management. Current projects include "Disentangling the relationship between sleep and pain" and "Unravelling molecular mechanisms of exercise in chronic pain", with supervision opportunities available.
Scientific achievements include:
- ISSLS Prize (2019, 2018)
- Fulbright Fellowship (2019)
- Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting participant (2019, 2023)
- $17.5M+ research funding (including $8.5M as CIA/PI)
- IASP Fact Sheet adoption (2021)
His work spans chronic pain prevention, complement pathway biology, and biomechanical coordination studies, with media recognition from 9 News Australia, Sydney Morning Herald, and Australian Academy of Science. He supervises PhD projects on sleep-stress-pain relationships and exercise-molecular pain mechanisms in collaboration with leading researchers like Professor Paul Hodges and Dr Felicity Han.
