Dr. David Laws is an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Oglethorpe University. He holds a B.S. in Biochemistry from Coastal Carolina University and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Emory University. His research focuses on synthesizing natural products with bioactive properties and modifying them to enhance their characteristics. He teaches Organic Chemistry I and II (lecture and lab) and the COR-400: Science and Human Nature course.
Dr. Laws' research interests include organic synthesis, catalysis, and medicinal chemistry, particularly involving transition metal complexes and natural product modifications. His recent publications explore enantioselective catalysis using rhodium-based systems and the synthesis of complex peptides with unique crosslink structures.
He has been recognized with the Quayle Teacher Scholar Award. His work bridges synthetic chemistry and biological applications, emphasizing practical improvements to naturally occurring molecules.
