About
Dr. David Kennedy is Assistant Professor of Theology and Religious Education at Dublin City University's Institute of Education. His research integrates philosophical hermeneutics, sacramental theology, and religious education in contemporary contexts.
Kennedy examines the role of truth in religious education within pluralist societies, drawing on philosophical hermeneutics (Gadamer, Ricoeur) and phenomenology (Marion). His work addresses challenges in Catholic education including LGBTQ+ inclusion, curriculum development, and faith formation in post-secular environments.
He directs the 'Conversations from the Classroom' podcast exploring Catholic education and coordinates DCU's Certificate in Religious Studies programmes. Kennedy developed Universal Design for Learning approaches for religious education and received the DCU President's Award for Excellence in Teaching.
His forthcoming monograph 'A Hermeneutics of Religious Education for a Post-Secular Age' will be published by Routledge. Kennedy serves as a theological consultant for Catholic education bodies and coordinates resources for Catholic schools nationwide.
