David Joel Sturman

Dr. David Joel Sturman is a Senior Lecturer at the American University of Paris (Computer Science Department) and serves as CTO co-founder of Stylaquin, an e-commerce startup. He is also an advisor to Bain & Company's Technology Insights Group, providing technical due diligence for private equity clients. Previously, he held CTO roles at GenArts, Massive Incorporated (acquired by Microsoft), Acclaim Entertainment, and MaMaMedia, with over 40 years of experience in software technology and leadership.

Education: Ph.D. in Computer Graphics and Animation from MIT Media Lab (1992), Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from MIT.

Research Interests: Dr. Sturman specializes in computer graphics, virtual reality, human-computer interfaces, and software architecture. His work spans video game technology, online applications, and e-commerce solutions. He pioneered advanced input devices (e.g., data gloves) during his MIT thesis and has contributed to in-game advertising standards via leadership roles at Microsoft and industry committees.

Advising & Coaching: Provides strategic and technical support to startups, coaches technology executives, and evaluates software engineering teams through Bain & Company. Past roles include V.P. Engineering at Jobcase, Senior Director at Audible (Amazon), and leadership at Bell Labs, NYIT, and Medialab Paris.
