David J. Gladstone

David J. Gladstone is a Research Professor of Engineering at Thayer School of Engineering and an Adjunct Professor of Medicine at Geisel School of Medicine. He serves as Director of Medical Physics Education and Research at Dartmouth Cancer Center. His work bridges medical physics, radiation therapy innovation, and clinical applications.

Education: BSCh from the University of Denver (1983), ScD from MIT (1989). Research focuses on ultra-conformal radiation therapy, image-guided techniques, Cherenkov light applications, and EPR dosimetry. He pioneered real-time radiation therapy visualization via Cherenkov imaging and developed methods to assess oxygenation during therapy.

Recent research trends include advancing FLASH radiotherapy, integrating Cherenkov imaging with MR-Linac systems, and optimizing radiation delivery through real-time dosimetry. His work addresses both technical innovation and clinical translation.

• Grants: Co-recipient of $60K Prouty Pilot grants (2023) for Cherenkov light analysis and skin cancer imaging.
• Advising: Supervises PhD students Megan Clark, Arthur Pétusseau, and Roman Vasyltsiv in radiation physics and biomedical engineering.
