Professor David Hricik is a Professor of Law at Mercer University School of Law, where he has taught since 2002. He previously practiced with Baker Botts and small litigation boutiques from 1988 to 2002, focusing on patent infringement, legal malpractice, and complex commercial matters. He served as a law clerk to Chief Judge Randall R. Rader at the Federal Circuit during 2012-2013 and was Of Counsel to Taylor English Duma, LLP from 2013 until early 2019.
Professor Hricik received his undergraduate degree magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Arizona, where he majored in English. He earned his law degree with honors from Northwestern University School of Law. His scholarship focuses on the intersection of ethics and intellectual property law, where he has authored the only treatise on ethical issues in patent litigation and co-authored the only treatise on ethical issues in patent prosecution.
His expertise spans Civil Procedure, Intellectual Property, Legal Ethics, Property Law, State & Federal Legislation, and Torts. His scholarly work has been influential, with his articles and testimony being adopted by both state and federal courts. He has written dozens of articles and delivered well over 200 presentations on these topics.
Professor Hricik has received significant professional recognition, including election to the American Law Institute in 2016 and becoming a Fellow of the American Intellectual Property Law Association in 2019. He has served in leadership positions on ethics committees with the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) and the American Bar Association (ABA), and has acted as an expert witness in relevant cases. In 2019, he began authoring "Georgia Law of Torts," expanding his scholarly contributions beyond intellectual property into tort law.
