David Hooper

David Hooper is a Professor at Western Washington University. His research focuses on how ecological communities influence ecosystem processes, particularly the cycling of carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus. He leads studies on plant diversity effects on ecosystem services, nutrient cycling in Pacific Northwest watersheds, and grassland restoration in Inner Mongolia. He has collaborated internationally, including work in Kenya on water hyacinth invasions and sewage management. His teaching includes courses like Bio 520, and he advises graduate and undergraduate students in ecology.

Research Themes: 1) Plant diversity impacts on ecosystem functioning; 2) Nutrient cycling in watersheds; 3) Grassland restoration. Recent projects include the Nooksack-Fraser Transboundary Nitrogen Project and APEX Modeling. He has presented at global conferences, such as the GEF International Waters Conference in Morocco.
