David Himmelfarb is an Instructor and Environmental Studies Internship Coordinator at Eckerd College. He holds a Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Georgia (2012) and a B.A. in Anthropology/College Scholar from Cornell University (2004). His research focuses on political ecology, rural livelihoods, and the intersection of power dynamics with environmental issues in Uganda, Vietnam, and the U.S. South. He co-founded and directs the Eckerd College Community Farm, a sustainable liberal arts farm emphasizing food justice and ecological stewardship.

Research emphasizes how power structures shape environmental interactions, including food insecurity, climate adaptation, and conservation conflicts. Recent work explores campus farms as educational tools for sustainable food systems. His publications address topics like conservation conflicts in Uganda, climate vulnerability in Atlanta, and necropolitical ecology.
Professional experience includes teaching at Eckerd since 2014 and prior roles at USF St. Petersburg, Hillsborough Community College, and the USDA Forest Service. He coordinates internships linking students with environmental organizations.
