David Hawes

David Hawes is a Professor in the School of Psychology at The University of Sydney and Co-Director of the Child Behaviour Research Clinic at the Brain & Mind Centre. His research focuses on child conduct problems, parenting interventions, and callous-unemotional traits. He holds a PhD from UNSW and joined the University of Sydney in 2007 after a post-doctoral fellowship.

His primary research examines:

• Developmental pathways to disruptive behavior disorders
• Family-based interventions for child conduct problems
• Callous-unemotional traits and antisocial behavior
• Parent-child attachment relationships
• Cultural aspects of child psychopathology

Analysis of recent publications demonstrates consistent focus on transdiagnostic approaches to child psychopathology, with particular emphasis on irritability as a cross-cutting construct. Research spans clinical trials of parenting interventions, cross-cultural comparisons of behavioral traits, and development of novel assessment tools.

Dr. Hawes leads multiple research grants including projects on:

He co-directs the Child Behaviour Research Clinic, which develops and evaluates evidence-based interventions for childhood behavioral disorders. The clinic maintains partnerships with health services and Indigenous communities across Australia.
