David H. Odell

David H. Odell is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Utah. He provides clinical services at the University of Utah Hospital, George E. Wahlen VA Medical Center, and the University of Utah Neuropsychiatric Institute, specializing in Cardiothoracic Anesthesia, Echocardiography, and Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) anesthesia. His roles include in-house overnight trauma call coverage and expertise in transesophageal and transthoracic echocardiography modalities.

Dr. Odell's research focuses on propofol's antidepressant effects, burst suppression in EEG, and perioperative echocardiography applications. He has contributed to Clinical Anesthesiology and Psychopharmacology, including clinical validation of pharmacokinetic models for depression treatment.

He received the Best Neuroscience Abstract award (2017) and has published extensively on propofol-induced depression relief, ECT safety, and echocardiography diagnostics. His education includes an MD from the Medical College of Wisconsin, followed by an internship, residency, and fellowship in perioperative echocardiography at the University of Utah.
