About
Dr David Geiringer is a Senior Lecturer in Public History & Heritage at Queen Mary University of London's School of History. He leads qHeritage, an experiential learning program connecting students with heritage organizations. His research challenges traditional historical narratives, focusing on modern Britain's social, cultural, and religious dynamics, including sexuality, gender, emotions, and urban change.
Dr Geiringer has collaborated with organizations like the BBC, The Museum of the Home, and the Muslim Council of Britain to disseminate his work. His first book, The Pope and the Pill: Sex, Catholicism and Women in Post-war England (2019), was praised as 'pathbreaking' for its oral history methodology and re-evaluation of secularization and sexual liberation narratives.
His current projects include a multi-disciplinary study of Britain in the 1990s and an exploration of Anglicanism's role in inner-city anti-racism efforts. He advocates for participatory oral history methods that prioritize marginalized voices, emphasizing collaboration over extraction.
Dr Geiringer engages with public audiences through media outlets such as The Guardian, The Independent, and podcasts like the Mile End Institute's 'The Pope and the Pill'.
