Dr. David Fancy is a Professor in the Department of Dramatic Arts at Brock University’s Faculty of Humanities, where he teaches performance, critical theory, and interdisciplinary research. He holds a PhD from Trinity College Dublin and a BA from Mount Allison University. He has been a founding faculty member of the PhD in Interdisciplinary Humanities and has served as Chair of the Department of Dramatic Arts (2009–12, 2020–21) and Graduate Program Director for the MA in Studies in Comparative Literatures and Arts (2013–16).
His research lies at the intersection of performance, philosophy, posthumanism, climate crisis, and social justice. He explores performance and ontology, performativity, technology, and decolonialism, with a strong focus on community-engaged art and disability justice. He is completing two monographs: Resonance: Biopolitics and Entrainment in Contemporary Technocapital (2025) and Posthumanism and Therapy (2026).
His recent publications include co-edited volumes on theatre pedagogy in the climate crisis, posthumanist aesthetics, and Latin American theatre. His creative work includes award-winning plays such as Khalida and Our Lady of Delicias, and performance installations like AnthrApology. His artistic research frequently involves collaborations with migrant workers, Indigenous communities, and survivors of institutional abuse.
He has received over $1.3 million in research and creative funding from SSHRC, the Canada Council for the Arts, and other agencies. His teaching has been recognized with the Brock Chancellor’s Chair for Excellence in Teaching and multiple awards for inclusive pedagogy.

He is a co-founder of the Well Earth Collaborative, advocating for those with environmental illnesses, and is completing training as a registered psychotherapist.
