About
David Engblom is a Professor at Linköping University's Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences (BKV), affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and the Center for Social and Affective Neuroscience (CSAN). His research focuses on understanding the neural mechanisms underlying aversive affective states and depressive symptoms associated with inflammatory diseases and major depression. Using mouse genetics, his lab investigates microglia, serotonergic neurons, and melanocortin systems as critical neural substrates for aversion and depressive signaling.
His work has contributed significantly to understanding how systemic inflammation and pain induce negative affective states. Recent studies highlight the role of prostaglandins, melanocortin receptors, and microglial activation in modulating mood and behavior. Engblom’s research bridges basic neuroscience with translational goals, aiming to develop strategies to alleviate suffering in patients with inflammatory or psychiatric conditions.
Key collaborations include the Wallenberg Centre for Molecular Medicine, and his lab’s work has been published in high-impact journals like Journal of Clinical Investigation. While no formal student advisees are listed here, his research team includes members like Principal Research Engineer Joost Wiskerke.
